We're having company Monday, and I'm looking for two things:
a cold side dish to accompany grilled meat and veggies
a recipe or idea for an egg-free dessert (our friend has an egg allergy)
i'd be grateful for any suggestions!

dessert: strawberry-rhubarb crisp. that is, if you can find rhubarb already. if not, then a berry crisp. mmm. now i'm hungry.
brilliant. i love strawberry rhubarb anything. and ali happens to have a wildly good strawberry rhubarb crisp recipe...which perhaps she will be so good as to post...
i want to try this:

we're getting into beet season! ali's vernal equinox party where we had goat cheese and citrus salad got me started on a goat cheese kick. mmmm.
What did you end up making, Darby?
P.S. I LOVE beets, too, Daphne.

oh, beets. best cold. and in small amounts. :-)
however, fruit crisp in LARGE amounts! ali, post that recipe!
i have a friend who's mom has a GREAT country strawberry-rhubarb jam recipe. i'm gonna see if i can snag it. man was it good on waffles!
yes, last summer was the summer of beets. "vernal equinox" is the best way to put it. let's bring it back! some day soon, patty kirk's beet greens recipe should make an appearance.
final menu for last night included twice-baked potatoes, (from whole foods), and strawberry shortcake with my trusty old (egg-free) biscuit recipe. turned out pretty good.
